Though Farris Field has served as the home of the UCA softball program since its inception in 1996, the facility as it exists today is virtually brand new.
Several renovations and upgrades in recent years have transformed the facility into one that provides a great experience for student-athletes and fans alike. Most recently, a state-of-the-art articifial playing surface was installed in the fall of 2011 by Geo-Surfaces, the same professional engineering firm which installed the purple & gray striped turf at UCA's Estes Stadium.
As part of that project, a large berm extending around the perimeter of the new 12-foot tall outfield fence was constructed, providing fans an alternative to the grandstand bleachers – allowing for blankets, lawn chairs, etc., creating a festive environment just beyond the outfield.
New for the 2011 season was the unveiling of the new, elevated grandstand - providing a great view above the playing surface for 500 fans. With the addition of the grass berm for the 2012 season, Farris Field will be able to accommodate more than 1,000 fans.
The facility also features new bullpens behind left and right field, batting cages, and construction has begun on a 1,200-square foot locker room just beyond the right field fence.
